VISION EASE Hard Coated and Uncoated Lenses
A hard coating is a clear, scratch-resistant film applied to a lens for enhanced durability, longevity, and visual quality, essential for materials like polycarbonate. These lenses come pre-coated due to their scratch-prone nature, requiring the lab to reapply a hard coating after removing the backside layer during processing. Two application methods are used: Spin Coating, a fast, UV-cured process that sprays coating on the backside of lenses, allowing tinting and good backside protection but less durability than other methods, and Dip Coating, a longer manual process providing uniform, highly durable scratch resistance on both sides and better compatibility with anti-reflective (AR) coatings, though it is not tintable. Vision Ease hard coated lenses are available in plastic 1.50, polycarbonate and high index 1.67.
Uncoated lenses, or naked lenses, are lenses without surface coatings, offering natural transparency and an unfiltered view. These lenses are budget-friendly, easy to maintain with basic cleaning solutions, and widely available, appealing to those seeking simplicity and cost-effectiveness. However, uncoated lenses are more susceptible to scratches, lack anti-glare and additional UV protection, and may require more frequent cleaning due to smudges and fingerprints. The absence of coatings can lead to reduced clarity in certain conditions and increased glare from artificial light sources, potentially affecting night driving and prolonged screen use. Vision Ease uncoated lenses are available in plastic 1.50, polycarbonate and high index 1.67.
